The Michigan Child Protection Law requires doctors to file a report when there is reasonable cause to suspect that a child patient is beinge abused or neglected.
Liability For Failure To Report Abuse
Mandated reporters, who fail to file a report of suspected child abuse of neglect, will be subject to both civil and criminal liability.
Shaken Baby Syndrome Cases
When a person who is required to make this report and does not, either intentionally or by simple neglect, that person can be sued if the child suffers additional injuries due to the failure to report.
