Walt Disney “Princess and Frog” Pendants Recalled at Wal-Mart February 1, 2010
Our Michigan child injury lawyers are reporting that Walt Disney “Princess and Frog” pendants were recalled on Friday, January 29th. The pendants were sold exclusively at Wal-Mart stores since November, in conjunction with release of the animated movie. Two items were recalled due to high levels of the toxic metal cadmium that could endanger a child’s health. The two items recalled are a crown pendant, UPC number 72783367144, and a frog pendant, UPC number 72783367147.
An Associated Press (AP) investigation reported that these pendants along with other children’s metal jewelry imported from China contained high levels of cadmium. In response to the AP’s investigation, Wal-Mart pulled three items form its shelves, including the two items before they were even recalled. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission then released the recall of the Disney pendants after doing their own testing for cadmium in children’s metal jewelry.
This is the first product recalled in the United States due to high levels of cadmium. Toxic metal cadmium can have detrimental affects on your child’s health and can cause harm to your child’s brain development. It is recommended that parents throw away all pieces of inexpensive metal jewelry, keeping in mind that children who chew, suck on, or swallow a pendant could endanger your child’s health.
